Frequently asked questions.

Via Instagram and Facebook, I get a lot of questions. Most of the girls just arrived in – or are moving to – Bangkok. Most of these frequently asked questions I asked myself too when I just arrived. Questions that you think are silly but can drive you crazy if you can’t find the answer. For example, I love to eat yogurt for breakfast, but why is there only yogurt with sugar? I spend the whole first week staring at the yogurt shelf in the supermarket, trying to find out which one does not contain sugar (or at least less sugar). It took me ages to find the right one and now they stopped selling it. It seems a bit silly, but we’ve all been in the same situation. Might not be with yogurt, but maybe something else.

With the help of other Bangkok Expat Girls, I made a list of frequently asked questions. Have a look, you might find the answer you are looking for.  It can be very overwhelming moving to – and living in – a new city.

If you have any other questions or maybe you have something to share with the Bangkok Expat Girls. Go to our Facebook Page and you can ask me and the other members everything there. Or you can always send me an e-mail through my contact page!

Beauty questions

Where can I products without whitening cream?

Skin whitening is a beauty trend seen in Asia. Therefore a lot of beauty products (day creams/ body lotion) contain a whitening substance. Other brands are available, but mostly high taxed and therefore expensive. I would recommend bringing at least enough for the first two months. In these 2 months, you can find another product you like.

Tip: always ask visitors to bring your favorite beauty products from back home.

Sephora has many branches in Bangkok, here you can find many beauty products without whiteing cream.

What (beauty) products should I bring? Products that are hard to find in Bangkok.
  • purple shampoo
  • sun lotion
  • tampons

Most supermarkets sell avocados. They even import from Australia, but they are expensive.

You can also buy your avocados online at Doi Luang Fruits. They come in a minimum order so better to share or freeze them. (Only in season, starting from June)

Where to find a good bakery?

Good bread is hard to find. Yes, I am from Europe, we love our bread!

Some supermarkets sell bread, but mostly it is nothing compared to the bread we like. Tops Market does an ok job baking bread.

But my favorites are:

Paul Depuis 1889. Paul is a French bakery that also sells delicious pastries. They have multiple branches in the big shopping malls like Emporium, Central Embassy, Central World etc.

Bei Otto. Besides a German restaurant, there is also a little bakery. You can eat in or buy bread to take home. They even sell bread rolls which you can bake at home. Besides bread, they also sell pastries and butchery products. You will find Bei Otto at Sukhumvit Soi 20.

Holey Artisan Bakery, this is a bakery well known for their delicious croissants. It is a little walk from BTS Phrom Phong but it’s totally worth the effort. You will find the bakery on Sukhumvit Soi 31.

Landhaus Bakery. Located in blooming Ari, this bakery is amazing. You have to try the cinamon buns, pretty sure you will end up buying a bag. The bakery is at 18 Soi Phaholyothing 5 in Ari 1.

Most Tesco supermarkets have a big box in front of the mall where you can donate your clothes. This box is from the Pan Ka Society. This society helps kids and other projects with these clothes.

Another great project is Second Change Bangkok. This organization picks the clothes up from your home for free.
