Rooftop bars in Bangkok

Bangkok has such an amazing skyline, but where is the best place to see it? There are many rooftop bars in Bangkok, as there are many people (14 million in the Metropolitan Region) too. Luckily I haven’t been to all (yet :P), but I have been to enough places to tell you my favorites.

So let me give you my top 5 rooftop bars in Bangkok. Check them out yourself and let me know your favorite in the comments! Or you more a fan of happy hours? Check out my other blog post for the best ladies nights in Bangkok

First things first…

Before you dive into one of the awesome rooftop bars in Bangkok with your shorts and flip-flops, let me explain a few things.

One, no flip-flops, or slippers whichever you prefer. Sandals for ladies are fine. Second no shorts. Haha, you could kinda guess that one by now. For almost all of the rooftop bars in Bangkok, they would like you to dress up nicely. And the pictures look better too when you are looking cute in your cocktail dress (right..?).

1. Cielo Sky bar

My favorite rooftop bar in Bangkok is definitely Cielo Sky bar. The view from the 46th floor is breathtaking and its 360 degrees. Best panorama view in Bangkok if you ask me! Don’t forget to make a reservation and ask for the best table to see the sunset.  The food is a little pricey, but they have some snacks too.

I would recommend going to the rooftop for sunset drinks and visit W-market afterward for food. W-market is a beer garden, just around the corner from Cielo. They have all kind of food and it is a chill place to hang out.

Where is Ciel Sky bar?

You can find Cielo Skybar on the 46th floor of the Skywalk Condominium. It is 5 minutes walk from BTS Phra Khanong (W-district).

Beautiful view over Bangkok

2. Octave rooftop lounge and Bar

Another favorite rooftop bar of mine is Octave. This bar knows multiple levels and is situated on floors 45 – 49. The best 360 degrees view is from the top level and is amazing by sunset. Make sure you have a reservation because it can get a little crowded especially during happy hour from 5-7pm.

3. High-So Rooftop bar

One of the first rooftop bars in Bangkok I went to was High-So at the Sofitel Hotel. It was with an event from Girl Gone International. This is an expat women group, I am one of the Community Managers. Email me if you want to learn more about GGI, happy to share!

The view of High-So is beautiful, you can see all over Lumphini Park. Also, the cocktails are pretty good! They don’t have a lot of food choices, but they do have snacks.

Where is High-So Rooftop bar in Bangkok?

The Sofitel hotel is about 5 minutes walk from MRT Lumphine (opposite Lumpini Park). The rooftop is on the 30th floor. You have to take two elevators to reach the 29th floor, after that you can take the stairs to the highest level. Here you have the best view of Bangkok.

4. Zoom Sky Bar

If you have a celebration or want to go out for a luxury dinner this rooftop bar in Bangkok is the place to go! The 360 degrees view over Sathorn is gorgeous and you can have a delicious dinner here too.

You can stay for the whole night as in the evening you can go dancing with a live DJ. It is a little walk from the BTS, especially if the girls are wearing heels. But on the other hand, you can spend the whole night here if you want.

Where is Zoom Sky Bar?

This rooftop is about 10-15 minutes walk (depending on how fast you go haha) from BTS Chiong Nonsi. Zoom Sky Bar is situated on the 40th floor of the Anantara Hotel.

Please pay attention: there are two Anantara hotel’s, Zoom Sky Bar is in Sathorn.

5. Sky Bar / Alfresco 64

Do you remember the movie the Hangover 2? If not go watch it and let me know what you think in the comments ;-). Anyway, this movie is shot in Bangkok and especially the Skybar of the Lebua Hotel is famous for it. Sadly you notice this by the price range of the drinks too. That said, the view is amazing! It is one of the highest rooftop bars in Bangkok and an awesome place to take visitors for a drink (if they pay themselves of course..).

Lebua hotel has twee amazing rooftop bars. Sky bar (from the movie The Hangover 2) and Alfresco 64 famous for its whiskey. They are both on the same level, the 64th floor.

Where is the Lebua hotel

Both rooftop bars are at the Lebua hotel. It is about 10 minutes walk from BTS Saphan Taksin. Both bars are located on the 64th floor.

Dresscode at these rooftop bars in Bangkok are strict.

Traditional Thai cuisine Bangkok

With many restaurants in Bangkok, you would assume a delicious and authentic Thai restaurant is easy to find. Well, all the street food is for sure authentic and everywhere in the city. However, restaurants in the center and most hotels often change the flavor a little to the taste of the guests. Especially if the guests are farang like us 😉 (foreigner). If you like spicy food you really have to tell them (“pet mak”).

So when the Amara hotel invited me to try their Thai passion menu at Element I was pleasantly surprised about their Thai Cuisine. Bangkok ‘s Element has another happy customer. The food was delicious with a real authentic flavor.

Cocktail time

Element

I started the night with a yummy pink cocktail. The best way to decide what to eat is by sipping on a cocktail right?

The menu of has many options, some familiar, some I never saw before and of course, which I had to try. They really gave the traditional Thai dishes a beautiful presentation. This made it difficult for us to choose.

One thing I love about Thailand is that all the menus have pictures, so you know exactly what it looks like. Mostly it makes it easier to choose, but when it all looks good it’s even more difficult.

They really gave the traditional Thai dishes a beautiful presentation.

Open kitchen

Element

Open kitchen

The restaurant has an open kitchen this allows the guests to have a look at the chefs that are preparing the Thai cuisine. Bangkok ‘s Element restaurant has a luxurious feeling with a dark classic interior.

Ready for some delicious Thai cuisine?

Pictures say more than a 1000 words, so get ready to get hungry!

Dessert

Even though we were really full, we saw coconut ice cream on the menu. And no one says no to coconut icecream right? Luckily we were with two so we could share the dessert (and calories) beween us.

LUXURIOUS 4-STAR HOTEL IN SILOM

Amara Bangkok

Elke l’Amie

                           20th May 201822 March 2016

Luxurious 4-star hotel in Silom area

Have you ever thought of a staycation? Eh.. what? A staycation is a holiday spend at home or near home. Bangkok has many beautiful hotels, the weather is (almost) always nice and sometimes you really don’t have time to travel far for a trip.

So why not go for a staycation? I was delighted to try it out for myself when Amara Bangkok invited me to stay at their beautiful hotel in Silom.

Staycation is a holiday/vacation spent at home or closeby home and visiting local attractions.

Bathtub goals from the Club Room

Amara Hotel

Bathtub goals

After a little taxi ride from Asoke, we were happy to arrive at the Amara hotel in Silom. Normally the first thing I do is jump on the bed, but this time my eye fell on something else. An amazing bathtub with a view of the beautiful city. I knew where I was spending my lazy Sunday. But first I was craving for some pool times!

I knew where I was spending my lazy Sunday.

Chill’n in the infinity pool

The pool of the Amara hotel in Silom has an awesome view over the business center of Bangkok. It is a beautiful place to enjoy the view and of course the sunset. Preferable with some colorful cocktails. As hey… a staycation is a vacation is equal to drinking colorful cocktails as that equals happiness. Right?

Enjoying my delicous

Amara Hotel

Happy hour

The AkaAza Rooftop bar is the perfect chill out spot to watch the sunset. Try one of the cocktails from the list. If you come between 7 pm and 9 pm they even have happy hour (1+1). Need I say more? Cheers 🙂

Breakfast buffet

At the Element restaurant, you can enjoy a lovely breakfast buffet. They have all types of bread and fruits and even an egg station. After I finished I spotted a waffle station too, but I was just too full to try that out. Should have started with that haha. It is always best to have dessert first right, in case you get too full.

Yummy breakfast.

Amara hotel

All day breakfast

We all know that feeling when you are a bit lazy and don’t want to wake up early for breakfast. Amara hotel has the perfect solution for this. All day a la carte breakfast. The all-day breakfast is served at the Element Restaurant.

But if you really don’t want to leave your room, there is always room service. So when you want you can even eat in bed! #lazysundaygoals

Element restaurant

If you are looking for delicious and authentic Thai food, I would definitely recommend the Element restaurant. Normally we don’t like to eat at the restaurant of the hotel, because the flavors of the Thai dishes are mostly a little bit adjust to the taste of the guests (who are mostly not used to spicy Thai food).

But the dishes of the Thai Passion menu were traditional Thai and really tasty. Can you handle more pictures without going for Thai food after? You can find my review here.

What to do around the hotel, in Silom area?

The hotel is located in the business district of Bangkok. Close to MRT Silom and BTS Chong Nonsi. What else is there to do around the hotel in Silom area? Near the hotel is the Patpong Night Market. You can buy lot’s of bags, shoes or souvenirs here. Fun place to shop and wander around. Besides the market, there are a lot of delicious restaurants, cafes and fun bars to go out for a drink.  Best brunch places are to find around Chong Nonsi BTS.

Ready for your staycation? Book the 4-star luxurious Amara hotel in Silom!

TRAVEL; WEEKEND TRIPS

What to see in Pattaya?

Elke l’Amie

                           10 May 201822 March 2016

Let’s start with…

Two hours away from Bangkok is Pattaya. It is a fun place for expats living in Bangkok. It is close to the big city and if you stay in a nice hotel or private Airbnb villa it can be the perfect escape from busy Bangkok. Especially if you only want to go for one or two nights. You don’t have to take a boat, just hop in a taxi or minivan and 1,5-2hr later you arrive and can enjoy some fresh air.  They also have a lot of nice seafood restaurants.

Pattaya is not everyone’s favorite. To be really honest the city is most famous for its sex tourism. GoGo bars, ping pong shows, soapy massage you name it, they have it. Although in the evening you might think it’s everywhere, during the day you will hardly notice it. And there are ways to escape it all, by renting a nice villa a little bit away from the center. For example in Jomtien. We go to Pattaya very often and I promise it is nothing to be scared about. But I just want you to know what to expect.

However, let me show you a few things what to see in Pattaya besides the nightlife.

Cartoon Network

Waterpark

Pattaya

Cartoon Network Waterpark

Pattaya has a waterpark, with all kinds of water slides. The theme of the park is Cartoon Network and is about 20 minutes drive from the center. They have shuttle service (twice a day) for a fee. Fun times!

Check the website here.

💰 Entrance price: 1290 THB (online, incl. food & locker)
🕒 Time to spend here: 3 hour
💟 Level of excitement (out of 5): 🌟🌟

Beach

What else is there to see in Pattaya? There are two main beaches, Jomtien and the beach at beach road. I would not recommend going to Beach Road. It is really dirty and not your nice tropical vibe. Jomtien is slightly better. But in my opinion, the best beaches to go to are at Koh Larn.

Koh Larn is a small island close to Pattaya. You can reach it by a 30-minute ferry ride. Go to the pier at the end of walking street and just take the local ferry. No need to take a private or speedboat (unless you like to pay extra). The local ferry costs 30 TBH.

In my opinion, the best beach to go to is Koh Larn.

When you arrive at Koh Larn you can choose from more than 6 beautiful beaches. There are motorbike taxis waiting to take you to the different beaches. Costs will be approx 50TBH per ride, per person. But there is a billboard at the pier with all the beaches and prices.

My favorite beach is Tayaiy Beach. This is the smallest one. It is nice and peaceful. There is 1 restaurant and if you want to rent a beach chair it will cost you around 100 TBH. Motorbike taxies will be there waiting to take you back.

💟 Level of excitement (out of 5): 🌟🌟🌟🌟

International Firework Festival

What to see in Pattaya? FIREWORKS!

Every year you can see the International Firework Festival in Pattaya. If you like fireworks this is the place to be. It is a 2-day event. The first night will be a rehearsal and the second night is the actual show. Shooters and pyromaniacs from all over the world will come to this event.

One tip! If you really want a nice place to see the fireworks, book a hotel with a balcony that has a good view of the sea. One year we decided to watch the show on the beach, but it is too crowded to actually see it. They sell tickets for the best places, the rest has not really a good view.

You can also visit one of the rooftop bars of the hotels, but sometimes they ask a fee or only allow access to guests staying at the hotel.

Normally the event was in November, but this year they moved it to June. Friday 8th of June will be the rehearsal and Saturday 9th of June is the show. Time is a bit difficult as every year they start too late. (Welcome to Thailand ;)). But is suppose to start at 6 pm.

What to see in Pattaya? Fireworks!.

💰 Entrance price: free entrance
🕒 Time to spend here: 1 hour
💟 Level of excitement (out of 5): 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Maya Music Festival

Coming from The Netherlands I miss my summer festivals. Maya Music Festival reminds me of the festivals back home. We went here in 2017 and it was an awesome event. There is one stage but a lot of different and famous dj’s. Even a few from The Netherlands of course, as we definitely have some of the best ones, like Tiesto and D-block and S-te-FAN.

The date for this year is not announced yet, but last year it was in December.

💰 Entrance price: +/- 4000 THB
🕒 Time to spend here: 6 hour
💟 Level of excitement (out of 5): 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Wonderfruit

What else to see in Pattaya besides the Maya music festival? There is another yearly festival, called Wonderfruit.

Wonderfruit is a four-day celebration of art, music, dance, and food. Everybody dresses up nicely and the decorations are beautiful. The theme is a bit comparable to Coachella or Burning Man.

Next event date is 13th – 16th December 2018.

Beautiful group of ladies at Wonderfruit festival

Pattaya

💰 Entrance price: 4500  THB (early bird)
🕒 Time to spend here: 2 days (can go 4, but 2 is enough)
💟 Level of excitement (out of 5): 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Party in Pattaya

Of course, you don’t have to go to a festival to party in Pattaya. In the city are many bars and clubs where you can dance the night away.

Most bars and clubs you can find at Walking Street. A famous street for nightlife. There is even an Ice Bar, which is funny considering the weather in Thailand is 30 degrees plus.

Sanctuary of truth

It wouldn’t be Thailand if they weren’t any temples. But, I need to tell you something about this Sanctuary. As it is the sanctuary of truth.

I went here with full expectations of an enormous and gorgeous wooden construction. The highest point of the Sanctuary is 105 meters. And although the building is indeed impressive and beautifully hand carved, there are more cons than pros to this touristy (!) spot.

Let me start positive and show your pictures of how impressive the sanctuary is.

That said. I would not go back again.

1. It is very touristy (busloads, touristy)

2. They offer rides on elephants, there are goats waiting in the heat to be played with. And you can ride horses, it is just a little area. Not enough room for horses to walk around and be free.

This is not entertainment guys! And I am not sure why people still are interested in this kind of thing. If we stop going to these kinds of things, it won’t make any money and it will be stopped.

I was having doubts if I should give attention to this sanctuary, but I think it is good to share, so you are aware. It is a nice place if they wouldn’t have these animals.

💰 Entrance price: 450 THB online (500 door sale)
🕒 Time to spend here: 1 hour
💟 Level of excitement (out of 5): 🌟

How to get to Pattaya?

Getting to Pattaya is very easy. You can get a taxi for about 1200 to 1500 TBH (including high way). Price is one way.

On your way back it is best to look for a taxi coming from Bangkok (one that just dropped someone off). They need to go back to Bangkok anyway, so the price will be cheaper. Look for either bright pink or blue or green/yellow taxi’s. NOT the blue/yellow, that is the Pattaya taxi.

Or if you want to save some money you can take a shared minibus from Bangkok.

Hotel recommendations

Pattaya has many luxury hotels, budget hotels or nice private villa’s. Lot of options to choose from.

We stayed at Wave hotel, a beautiful boutique hotel. Check out my review here.

Traditional Thai Food Bangkok

Baan Nual

Elke l’Amie

                           7 May 201822 March 2016

Authentic Thai food in Bangkok

As there are so many places to eat here it is sometimes hard to find a good local restaurant. Especially one that serves authentic traditional Thai food in Bangkok.

People often ask me what I like most about Thailand and besides the weather and the friendly people, it is the food for sure. It is delicious, but be careful with the chilies if you can’t handle them very well. However, it does give that extra flavour to it.

So where can you find a restaurant that cooks like grandma does (but in this case your Thai grandma, “yâa”). Well, I have a really special one to show you.

Baan Nual

Thai restaurant

With a little help from friends, we got a lunch reservation at Baan Nual. A small family-owned Thai restaurant. And by small I mean 3 tables. So make sure you book ahead (like months ahead). With the setting they created, it feels like you have been invited to their home, which makes it extra special. A unique place to eat Thai food in Bangkok. As the name also implies, because Baan Nual means “House perfect taste”.

It feels like you have been invited to their home.

Beautiful setup

Ordering by pictures

Because the restaurant is family owned, they would like to know your order before you arrive. You can order the delicious dishes from pictures on their Instagram page. That way they can go to the market in the morning and make sure everything is freshly available and ready when you arrive.

They don’t serve alcohol. But if you would like to drink some, there is a mom and pop shop next door. We brought our own wine and they were so sweet to already setup the wine glasses. Amazing service.

In love with these plates!

Ready to get hungry?

As everything looks delicious and probably also unfamiliar I tried it out for you. With help from our Thai friends, we ordered some yummy and traditional Thai dishes. As that is what we came for, authentic delicious Thai food in Bangkok.

Everything will be brought to the table at once and you just share the dishes with your friends. But that is also the most fun right? Aroi Mak!

Do you want to visit Baan Nual?

I would also like to add here that this review is in no way sponsored. I just thought it was too good not to share with you.

If you would like to go to Baan Nual too you can give them a call or send a message via Instagram. You can’t go without a reservation and they have different shifts. So better be quick, you don’t want to miss out!

Miami style boutique hotel – best hotel in Pattaya

Last week I had the amazing opportunity to stay at the best hotel in Pattaya, Wave. And it is not just me that thinks so, Wave hotel is also numbered as the best hotel in Pattaya by TripAdvisor and Booking.com. A peaceful boutique hotel in the center of Pattaya. The design of the hotel can be described as classic Miami meets modern Thailand.

Pattaya is only 2 hours drive from Bangkok (1,5 hour if you are lucky and without traffic). It is the closest beach from Bangkok and therefore a popular place for expats like me.

Refreshing welcome drink

Wave Hotel Pattaya

Arriving at Wave Hotel Pattaya

Upon arrival, we were treated to a refreshing welcome drink and cookies. Always a very nice gesture, especially if you have been sitting in the car for over 2 hours.

The cookies were welcoming too as we started to get a little hungry. After a smooth check-in, we were directed to our room of the best hotel in Pattaya.

Exploring our room

The moment we entered the room we felt very at home. There was a lovely welcome sign above the bed. Wave hotel stole my heart with the elephant towels on the bed and the super cute bunny towels by the sink. Bonus points for the best hotel in Pattaya.

Wave hotel stole my heart with the folded elephant super cute bunny towels.

Delicious lunch

After our 2-hour car trip, we were a little hungry. Although we normally prefer to eat in the city itself, we decided to eat at the hotel this time. We did not regret our choice. The food was absolute yum!

And on top of that Wave Hotel has happy hour from 5 – 7 pm on all drinks. The promotion at the best hotel in Pattaya is “buy one, get one free”.  Awesome deal!

Chilling with duck floaties at the swimming pool

The pool at the Wave Hotel is super fun with two local residents.

Best choice for breakfast

If you think just like me that breakfast is the best meal of the day, you will love this hotel. The best hotel in Pattaya serves a la carte breakfast with many delicious and healthy choices.

It was difficult to choose but put waffles and fresh fruit on the menu and I don’t have to look further. Oh, they have a yum cheese platter too! Heaven!!

TEETH WHITENING BANGKOK

The Smile Bar

Elke l’Amie

                           28 February 201822 March 2016

Teeth whitening Bangkok

Last week I was invited to review the teeth whitening program at The Smile Bar.

I love a nice cup of coffee or tea in the morning and this was getting noticeable at my teeth as well. And because it is difficult to find the right place for teeth cleaning, especially in a new city like Bangkok, it is good to have a reliable place to go to. So I am happy to share my review with you!

The Smile Bar

The Smile Bar offers teeth whitening in Bangkok. They use a famous concept found in Sweden. It is a 100% safe, efficient and painless way to whiten your teeth within 20 minutes. They use a very effective method with whitening- gel and a lamp. But it will all be explained to you the moment you step inside the hygienic Smile Bar.

My teeth color before the whitening

100 shades of white

Before you start with the teeth whitening program at The Smile Bar Bangkok they will check your current teeth color and explain the process. There are many shades of white, too many to show on a chart. I started with shade 22, more or less in the middle of the chart.

Get a whiter smile in 20 minutes

Within just 20 minutes, The Smile Bar can make your teeth between 2 to 9 shades whiter.

There are three teeth whitening packages at The Smile Bar.

1. Single Whitening for 20 minutes (top up / maintenance whitening)

2. Double Whitening 2 * 20 minutes (most chosen)

3. Triple Whitening 3 * 20 minutes (for even better results)

If you want you can even book a foot massage while you wait for your teeth to get whiter!

For prices check the website here.

Within just 20 minutes, The Smile Bar can make your teeth between 2 to 9 shades whiter.

Dentist check

Before you start your teeth will be checked by a dentist. The Smile Bar works closely with the dentist next door. Before the whitening can start the dentist will check if a proper teeth cleaning is necessary for a better (and healthier) result.

Relaxing while waiting for my teeth to get whiter.

Relaxing egg chair

While waiting for the teeth whitening to kick in you can relax in these “egg chairs”. I totally want one at home, they are really comfy. Only I prefer one in pink haha.  You can take a power nap or borrow an Ipad and headset to listen to some relaxing music. “Easy Peasy”.

Teeth whitening Bangkok – The end result

After 2 x 20 minutes, my teeth were back to their natural white color. I could definitely see a good difference in the color compared to the color before we started. I went from shade 22 to 12. Quite the difference and that after 40 minutes!

I can definitely recommend the teeth whitening program in Bangkok at The Smile Bar. It is an efficient and fast way to get your teeth a few shades lighter.

The whitening effect can last until 6 months.

Me enjoying my new whiter smile 🙂

Best of Koh Samui travel guide

Best of Koh Samui?

Koh Samui is one of the bigger islands in Thailand and has been popular for many years. It was one of the first islands in Thailand I visited. Is it still worth a visit or did it become too popular? Let me tell you my favorite spots and why it is still one of my favorite islands in Thailand. Get ready to read the best of Koh Samui.

Looking for other gorgeous islands in Thailand? Check out “best islands to visit in Thailand”.

Exploring paradise at Koh Samui

Mae Nam Beach.

Best of Koh Samui: Party or Chill?

Koh Samui is an island of many flavors and maybe that is why I like it so much. The best of Koh Samui is that you can have it all on one island, just a motorbike ride away. So where can you find your flavor..?

Party hard at Chaweng Beach road.

The place to party hard at Koh Samui is Chaweng Beach Road. Think about it as the Lloret de Mar of Koh Samui. On beach road, you find all the bars and restaurants.

My favorite place to go to on Chaweng Beach Road is “Legends Bar“. A small bar with nice rock music (from the music legends of course) and delicious cocktails! Start the night here with a happy hour promotion.

Most places in Chaweng are western style, all aimed at the drunken tourists ;-). Don’t get me wrong, to party Chaweng Beach Road is very fun. But definitely not my favorite part of Koh Samui.

Think about Chaweng as the Lloret de Mar of Koh Samui

Enjoy the chill beach bars at Bohput.

If you are more a chill / relaxing type of party animal, check out Fishermen’s Village in Bophut. Here you can relax on the beach with pillows. It is less crowded and the music is more relaxed than at Chaweng Beach. If you want to compare it to Spain again, it is more the Ibiza of Koh Samui. My favorite chill out spot on Samui!

Us Dutchies love to go to Spain for the holidays, therefore my comparison hehe. 😉

Chill’n at Bophut Beach

My favorite moment, waiting for sunset.

Best of Koh Samui; Beach

On Koh Samui, you can choose from many beaches. Most people go to the popular ones I already mentioned like Chaweng and Bohput.

Totally zen at Mae Nam

I almost wanted to keep this hidden treasure for myself, but it is just too good to not share. By far my favorite beach in Koh Samui is Mae Nam Beach. The sand is soft and it still nice and quiet compared to Chaweng Beach.

The first time I went to Mae Nam was in 2007 and there were hardly any people. I must admit that unfortunately more people discovered my little treasure. Because of this, I hesitated a little if I should share the best of Koh Samui with you. But it is just too good to not tell the world.

A little hidden treasure at Baan Tai Beach

Hidden treasure

We found this little treasure after a nice stroll along the beach of Mae Nam.  I was looking for a nice spot to take pictures, without any people sunbathing in it. So we decided to go see what was beyond the end of the regular beach.

We were lucky the tide was low that we could walk past the rocks (you will have to go through the sea a little bit, but not much). And here we found this little-hidden treasure and my new favorite spot on Koh Samui island. There was literally no one there, and if you don’t mind to sit between the rocks you can even put a few towels down and do some sunbathing. Just keep in mind that if the tide is high, you wont be able to sit there as the beach will be completely covered by the sea.

And there we found this little-hidden treasure and my new favorite spot on Koh Samui island.

How do you get to this hidden treasure?

Get on your motorbike and drive all the way to the end of Baan Tai Beach. Here you can park your motorbike for a small fee. Walk to the beach and if you reach the end you see a large rock. If the tide is low, you are lucky and you can pass the rock, just walk a little through the sea. Here you find this little hidden treassure.

Best of Koh Samui; Viewpoint

A place you must visit on Koh Samui is the viewpoint. We were here on a very sunny day and it was so blue! Looked amazing! I wasn’t dressed in blue on purpose haha, but made it even bluer! For sure the best attraction of Koh Samui.

Viewpoint Koh Samui

Best of Koh Samui; Getting around on Koh Samui

Getting around Koh Samui is easiest by scooter. You can rent them anywhere around the island. But please be aware that you check if the scooter has any damage (and if the breaks work!!!) before you drive away. There are hardly any taxi’s, you can take a tuk-tuk if you planning to drink. They drive around the island.

Accommodation at Koh Samui

As you probably know by now, the best of Koh Samui is in Mae Nam. I would recommend staying at a resort here, so you have the most beautiful beach around the corner. Everything else is just a scooter ride away.

A beautiful and luxury resort to stay is Mimosa Resort & Spa. The food is very good here too! Check rates here.

How to get to Koh Samui

Koh Samui has his own airport. You would think that this is very convenient and it is, but the annoying part is that the airport is owned by Bangkok Airways and Thai Airways. These companies are keeping the flight prices very high. So if you fly on Koh Samui itself you can expect a price that goes from 5000 –  9000 TBH per ticket. Crazy prices!

Luckily there are other options to get to Koh Samui. The easiest way is to fly to Surathani. On the airport of Surathani, you can arrange transport to Donsak pier in Surathani, this will take you a little over an hour. From there it is just a 45 min ferry ride away. You will arrive at Nathon Pier.

If you like to book the bus and boat in advance you can also book it here.

EXPERIENCE A TROPICAL STAY IN KOH LIPE AT

Idyllic resort

Tropical vibes at Idyllic concept Resort Koh Lipe

Where do you take your friends for the ultimate paradise experience? Koh Lipe! A gorgeous island also referred to as ” The Maldives of Thailand “. And they were not wrong! The island is gorgeous, but which resort is best in Koh Lipe?

After a little research on finding the best beach, we knew we wanted to stay at Sunrise Beach. The island is small and to get the real tropical island experience Idyllic Concept Resort Koh Lipe is the place to be!

Do you want to read more about Koh Lipe and the other best islands to visit in Thailand? Read all about it here.

Gorgeous view from Sunrise Beach

Arriving on a gorgeous tropical island

On arrival of this beautiful little island, you will be dropped off at the main pier. Here you will be picked up by employees of your resort in Koh Lipe.

The moment we arrived at Idyllic Resort Koh Lipe our tropical adventure began. Beach swings on a white sand beach overlooking the blue ocean, you stole my heart Koh Lipe!

Exploring our room

I stayed with two friends in one room and the Idyllic resort in Koh Lipe was kind enough to put another bed in our room. The rooms are very spacious so it fitted easily! You know my routine, so first I did a little jump on the bed to see if it isn’t hard as a rock. If you haven’t been to Thailand yet, be prepared for hard matrasses and soft pillows (not my favorite!). Anyway, the bed did not disappoint! Bonus point for you Idyllic Resort Koh Lipe!

The rooms are surrounded by a lot of greenery. It gives the perfect tropical vibe!

BUT HEY! Don’t forget to bring your mosquito spray! Not sure about you, but they love me! (I think it is the overload of sweet cocktails).

Healthy breakfast

The Idyllic Resort Koh Lipe serves a delicious and healthy buffet style breakfast. You can choose from a variety of yogurts and healthy shakes to fresh seasonal fruits and bread. Also, try out the egg station and pick the style you are craving for!  My personal favorite is the poached egg, it was really good!

And maybe even more important, they serve a good cappuccino. I normally drink a regular Americano in the morning, but on a holiday my breakfast needs to be a little party.

Sunrise Beach

You haven’t been to Sunrise Beach if you haven’t seen the sunrise right? So we woke up at 5.15 coming to the conclusion we were a little too excited. If you are at the beach at 6.15 it is early enough.

We chilled out by the beach for a while and enjoyed the quietness with a nice cup of coffee (from our room as breakfast is not served yet).

The reward of waking up early was magical. The sky turned pink with a golden glow. It was definitly worth it!

The gorgeous sunrise in front of the resort.

You can stay at this resort in Koh Lipe too.

Do you want to stay at Sala Ayuttaya too?

Of course, you want! It is a little treasure in the middle of Ayutthaya.

Check out the rates here!

Best Islands to visit in Thailand

Elke l’Amie

                           05 December 201722 March 2016

Best islands to visit in Thailand?

Thailand has many islands and all are very pretty. So I can imagine you get a bit overwhelmed when you are looking for a nice beach vacation.

Let me give you my top 3 of best islands to visit in Thailand. I’ll promise they won’t disappoint.

Tropicial vibes at Koh Lipe

Sunrise Beach.

1. Koh Lipe

Number 1 on my list of best islands to visit in Thailand is Koh Lipe.

Koh Lipe is also named as the Maldives of Thailand. Ok, I see you raising your eyebrows. Nothing can beat the Maldives right? I have never been to the Maldives unfortunately, but I can tell you Koh Lipe comes a long way.

The island is pretty small and you can easily walk around it. But wow Koh Lipe you are beautiful and for sure one of the best islands to visit in Thailand. It has white sand beaches and a clear blue sea. Bring me a cocktail and I call it paradise.

I would reccommend staying for at least 3 nights, because it is quite a hassile to get to this little island.

Pretty view over Sunrise Beach.

Enjoying the colorful sunset.

💰 Entrance price: 200 THB (even though it is not a part of the national park)
🕒 Time to get here: half day (flight, bus, boat)
💟 Level of excitement (out of 5): 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Accomodation at Koh Lipe

Are you looking for a place to stay in Koh Lipe? I walked around the island and the best beach I found is Sunrise Beach. A beautiful white sand beach and not as busy as on walking street.

We stayed at Idyllic Concept Resort, I can totally recommend it. People are super friendly and the breakfast is delicious.

Viewpoint at Koh Samui

2. Koh Samui

It might be a well-known island, but I have a special bond with the amazing Koh Samui. We are coming here since 2007 and I am still in love with this island. That is why it is number two on my list of best islands to visit in Thailand.

The best places to stay is either Mae Nam beach (my favorite) or Lamai Beach. If you are looking for a quiet, romantic, but gorgeous beach I recommend Mae Nam beach. If you still want the beauty, but also a little entertainment I would choose for Lamai Beach. Here you can find some awesome beach bars. At Mae Nam, the beach is most beautiful, but there is not much to do (especially in low season).

Chaweng beach is the most popular and touristy area on Koh Samui. If you like to party this is the place to be. But I don’t prefer to stay here.

Koh Samui

Accommodation at Koh Samui

As I already told you, Mae Nam is my favorite area on Koh Samui.

A beautiful place to stay at is, for example, Mimosa Resort and Spa. It is direct at the beach and the food is very delicious.

Want to read more about Koh Samui? Read my blog: “Best of Koh Samui – travel guide”.

Enjoying the beauty of Koh Kood.

3. Koh Kood

The third on the list of best islands to visit in Thailand is Koh Kood. But don’t get me wrong it is certainly not last. Koh Kood is gorgeous too!

Koh Kood has no airport so it takes a little longer to get too, but it is totally worth the effort.

Think of beautiful sunsets, beach swings and dining on a white sand beach. It is quiet and not yet fully discovered by tourists. Probably because it takes a little effort to reach. But hey who needs those tourists anyway ;-).

For me, the best area to stay at is Ao Phrao beach. The perfect escape from your hectic lives. There is not much to do around here, but you can visit any of the other beaches by motorbike.

Koh Kood

Accommodation at Koh Kood

The most beautiful resorts at Koh Kood are the ones of the fairytale of Peter Pan.

Check out the luxury Tinkerbell Resort or the Peter Pan Resort itself. Who said fairytales are not real?
